I don't know how Jason Rohrer manages to fit so much emotion and so many ideas into an eight minute game, but he sure does.Daniel Bullard-Bateshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10930142428698229185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5707645171160442312.post-55257177396760920652009-05-26T14:27:16.240-04:002009-05-26T14:27:16.240-04:00Thanks for the link, Bobby. It's a short, fascinating game.Daniel Bullard-Bateshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10930142428698229185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5707645171160442312.post-47955499562756428972009-05-26T13:14:40.732-04:002009-05-26T13:14:40.732-04:00http://hcsoftware.sourceforge.net/jason-rohrer/

Video games require an investment from the player. People need to have time, manual dexterity, mental acuteness and often some prior knowledge or experience with the medium to even be vaguely interested in playing. One game that I believe perfectly approaches video game as art is Flower. Its combination of basic but striking visuals, lyrically interactive music, an incredibly easy and intuitive control scheme (with the six-axis no less!), and just the barest hint of a story make for a compelling argument for games as approachable art. My girlfriend, who rarely games, was entranced by Flower and made her friends try it, all of whom were dazzled by it. What makes games such a good candidate for artistic interpretations is not only its level of interactivity, which as Daniel points out is the genre's unique talent. I believe its also about video game's ability to combine all of the elements of other forms of art into one big, beautiful masterpiece.Ollecramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13753687579901027232noreply@blogger.com
